Bright stars

The first table holds the 51 stars that Chapter O1 teaches and the sky trainer asks about at every level. The second holds the other stars with an IAU name that are brighter than magnitude 3.0, which the trainer adds at its last level. Both tables are sorted from the brightest star down.

The magnitudes are visual magnitudes from the HYG catalogue. Several of these stars are variable, among them Betelgeuse and Antares, and for α Centauri the catalogue gives the brighter of its two stars alone, so the pair together is brighter than the table shows. The positions are for the equinox J2000. Each star links to the section of Chapter O1 that teaches its constellation, where that section is written.
